Day
Welcome to your Europamundo Trip Style Tour!
We leave PARIS around 8.00 in the morning. We travel to Normandy. We make a stop in GIVERNY, a small town famous for being the home of the impressionist painter Claude Monet. We include Monet´s house and gardens entrance, where the artist spent much of his life and created some of his most famous works, such as the water lily paintings. In the gardens we will see a water lily pond, a Japanese bridge and a variety of flowers.
After that we visit ROUEN, capital of Normandy with its impressive Gothic cathedral, its well-preserved historic center with half-timbered houses and its lively atmosphere. We continue to HONFLEUR, a beautiful Norman port city known for its picturesque old port surrounded by colourful houses and its Gothic-style Sainte-Catherine church, built entirely in wood. Its restaurants are known for the fresh seafood of the region. Time for a stroll and to lunch.
In the afternoon we travel to CAEN, known for its rich history, its castle built by William the Conqueror in the eleventh century and its Abbey of Men, a Gothic church also built in the eleventh century. It is a vibrant city with a lively student life and a wide variety of restaurants, bars and shops. With our guide we walk through the city center.
We travel early to the MONT SAINT MICHEL, on a rocky island (surrounded by sea according to high tide hours, accessible by road) known for its impressive medieval abbey at the top of the island. This town is one of the most visited tourist spots in France due to its rich history and natural beauty, with narrow cobbled streets, churches and monasteries and panoramic views of the ocean. We will visit the abbey (entrance included with audio-guide) an impressive example of medieval architecture that offers us a fascinating insight into what monastic life was like in the eleventh century.
After that we travel to SAINT MALO, walled city in Brittany founded in the twelfth century that has an old town full of cobbled streets, shops, and restaurants. The city has a long history of privateering and maritime trade. Time for lunch. Afterwards, we go to DINAN, picturesque small walled town with its historic center of half-timbered houses and a lot of touristic life. We continue to RENNES, the capital of Brittany will surprise us as a vibrant and cosmopolitan university city. We recommend a walk through its historic center, and its large green areas.
After breakfast, we travel to the Loire Valley. In ANGERS we visit with our guide its impressive medieval fortress (entrance included) that houses a fantastic medieval tapestry: "the tapestry of the apocalypse". After that, we will take a walk through the historic center of the city. We follow the Loire Valley to the Château of Villandry, built in the sixteenth century and famous for its terraced gardens, which include a herb garden, a flower garden, a water garden and a vegetable garden, all carefully designed and maintained. We include the entrance to the gardens. Time for lunch.
We will continue to TOURS, next to the Loire, a city of Gallo-Roman origin, with an impressive Gothic cathedral and old medieval center. Continuation to AMBOISE, we include the entrance to the castle that was a royal residence for several centuries and where Leonardo da Vinci spent his last years. We will visit the castle and visit the chapel where Leonardo Da Vinci is buried. After that you will have free time to stroll through the charming town of Amboise, on the banks of the Loire.
We continue to visit some of the most spectacular castles of the Loire region. In CHENONCEAUX we visit its elegant castle of the sixteenth century, built in the form of a bridge over the Cher River, it has impressive gardens and parks that offer beautiful views of the castle from all angles. Entrance to the castle included. After that we travel to BLOIS, a charming city of cobbled streets, half-timbered houses, and picturesque squares. Its cathedral and castle are a standout (entrance not included, if you want to visit it our guide can help you to purchase your tickets). Time for a stroll and lunch. In the afternoon we travel to CHAMBORD, the largest castle of the Loire, with a unique architecture that combines Renaissance, Gothic and classical elements and has a double helix staircase, masterpiece of Renaissance engineering. Its large park and gardens are spread over 5,000 hectares and are home to deer, wild boars and other wildlife. In addition to the castle, Chambord is a quiet and picturesque place to explore, with walking and cycling trails. We include the entrance to the gardens.
