We leave Madrid towards SORIA, a small provincial capital on the banks of the Douro River, quiet and inspiring, full of legends. Its wide and varied religious architecture stands out, highlighting the hermitage of San Saturio (entrance included) excavated in the rock next to the Douro River, the Cloister of Saint John of Douro (entrance included) with its fantastic mixture of architectural styles and the Romanesque façade of Santo Domingo. Time in the historic center of this city for lunch. Just 7 km from Soria, we visit the archaeological site of NUMANCIA (entrance included) Celtiberian city famous for its 20 years’ resistance against the Roman army, which ended with the suicide of its entire population. We can learn with the recreation that has been made of two houses, one Celtiberian and another from Roman times.
We continue along a road between magnificent landscapes towards La Rioja, arrival in LOGROÑO, provincial capital. With our guide we walk through this active city, its old town, the stone bridge, its con-cathedral. Free time and accommodation.
We continue our route to visit a population linked to the Way of Saint James: SANTO DOMINGO DE LA CALZADA. City founded by the homonymous saint to offer security and shelter to the pilgrims of the French Way. Accompanied by our guide we can walk through its streets and if you wish, you can visit the Cathedral where the body of the saint is preserved and its famous Gothic hen house (entrance not included). We continue our wine route visiting HARO, wine capital of La Rioja, whose internationally renowned wineries are as important as their artistic and architectural legacy: Town Hall, Church of Saint Thomas, numerous palaces and ancestral streets. We will visit one of its famous wineries to discover the production processes and, of course, taste their wines (entrance included). We will have time for lunch in this city full of taverns and restaurants. Then we will visit BRIONES, a town located on a hill whose northern slope is cut by the Ebro River and has an interesting medieval urban plot where most of its buildings are built in ashlar stone. Next stop: LA GUARDIA, beautiful and unique, located on top of a hill surrounded by vineyards, with its wall and cobbled streets that spill historical events between the kingdoms of Navarre and Castile. Famous for its wines. Time for a stroll accompanied by our guide we will arrive at the Ysios Wineries, designed by Santiago Calatrava (entrance not included). We return to LOGROÑO, free time.
End of our services. Our guide will leave you at the indicated location. We hope you enjoyed your trip!
